Hessonite / Gomed (Rahu)

Hessonite, associated with the shadow planet Rahu, is a variety of garnet with a honey to reddish-brown color. The finest hessonites traditionally come from Sri Lanka, known for their clarity, warmth, and strong astrological potency. Other sources include India, Madagascar, and Africa, though Sri Lankan stones are considered superior. Unlike other garnets, hessonite has a distinctive oily or resinous glow. In astrology, it is worn to counteract Rahu’s negative effects, reduce confusion, and bring stability during turbulent phases. Natural, untreated hessonite is preferred, as treatments can reduce its astrological effectiveness. Its affordability compared to other gemstones makes it accessible while still being powerful.
