Emerald (Panna)
Emerald, associated with Mercury (Budh), represents intellect, communication, and creativity. It is a variety of beryl, colored green by chromium and vanadium. The world’s most prestigious emeralds come from Colombia, particularly the Muzo, Chivor, and Coscuez mines, known for their deep green color and natural glow. Zambia is another major source, producing emeralds with a slightly bluish-green tone and better clarity. Emeralds naturally contain inclusions, known as “jardin,” which are accepted as part of their character. High-quality emeralds are rarer than diamonds of similar size. In astrology, emerald is believed to sharpen intelligence, improve business skills, and enhance articulation. Because emeralds are softer than sapphires, expert cutting and careful handling are essential to preserve their beauty.
